POTD #21 Monte-Carlo Monday #2: A NLHE Blocker Bluff vs a PLO Specialist
An un-wise-hand vs Weisman
A wonderful thing about poker is that, no matter how big a mistake you make in a hand or in a tournament, there’s always a chance you might win. If you get all-in with 1% equity, it might hit. If you misread your hand and call the river with second nut low, your opponent might have nut low. In tournament poker, maybe you made a stupid bluff and are left with 1 BB. Well, if you spin it up and win the tournament, that bluff was a small but necessary speed bump on the path to victory. There is a flip side to the coin: Sometimes you’re the person who misclick calls the second nut low; sometimes you’re the guy bluffing with the nut low. I’ve written about a hand where I made mistakes on early streets, but I made good decisions on later streets that allowed me to win the pot. Today’s hand is the yin to that hand's yang. In a deepstack three way pot, I showcase my skill with strong, technical play up until the river, and then I make a large mistake on the river that costs me a lot more than my solid fundamentals earned me earlier in the hand.
